Montana 1948 Web Quest
Step 1: After you have been assigned to a topic, you will use the questions below to guide you in your research about your topic. You must use my links, but you can also use outside information. You must take notes as you read and learn about your topic. Your notes should be in bullet form or any other format that will allow you to later use the information for a slide presentation.
Step 2: With your group members, you will create a brief 8-12 slide presentation using the presentation function on googledocs. Your presentation should not simply be the question/answer format. Instead, synthesize the answers to your questions into specific topics that will appear on each slide. Include images, music, or video to accompany your text. Each of your group members will be responsible for contributing to the creation of the presentation.
Note: You must have a final "works cited" page for your presentation. The formats to follow are shown below. You can also access the formats on the OWL (Purdue University Website).
A Page on a Web Site
For an individual page on a Web site, list the author or alias if known, followed by the information covered above for entire Web sites. Remember to use n.p. if no publisher name is available and n.d. if no publishing date is given.
Example:
"How to Make Vegetarian Chili." eHow. Demand Media, n.d. Web. 24 Feb. 2009.
An Image (Including a Painting, Sculpture, or Photograph)
Provide the artist's name, the work of art italicized, the date of creation, the institution and city where the work is housed. Follow this initial entry with the name of the Website in italics, the medium of publication, and the date of access.

Group 4: Perspectives on the American Frontier
Click on the link to the wikipedia entry on the American Frontier and the article on The American West (1865-1900). Then watch the short video "Fact vs. Fiction: Movies of the Old West" (see me for the login information) on the depiction of the wild west in the video. Then, answer the following questions:
1. According to the articles, what is the "American Frontier" or the "Wild West"?
2. In what ways did early America expand the frontier?
3. What is Manifest Destiny?
4. Briefly explain the methods and reasons that Americans moved west: the Gold Rush, the Oregon Trail, the Pony Express, the Transcontinental Railroad, the land rush, the removal of Native Americans, and the buffalo.
5. Briefly describe some of the lawmen and lawbreakers of the American West: Wyatt Earp (and the O.K. Corall), Billy the Kid, Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch.
6. Describe the American Cowboy. How was he mythologized in American myth?
